Entebbe International Airport has recorded the highest ever monthly traffic, according to the latest report by the country’s aviation regulator.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) said in a Monday statement that Entebbe Airport recorded 212,701 international passengers in August.
The figure suggests a daily average of 6,861 passengers.
“Of these, 108,055 were departing, and 104,646 were arriving passengers,” the regulator said.
UCAA said the second highest figure recorded at the airport in a single month was 198,961 passengers in December 2023.
In January the airport registered 196,211 passengers and 195,909 in July.
“In relation to cargo, Entebbe handled 3,525 metric tonnes of exports and 1,885 metric tonnes of imports, a total of 5,410 metric tonnes in August 2024,” UCAA noted.
Vianney Luggya, the spokesperson of UCCA, attributed the high figures to a robust marketing strategy by tourism stakeholders.
He also said many airlines operating in the country had opened more international routes.
“The economy has fully recovered from post-COVID effects and tourism stakeholders have done intensive international marketing,” Luggya said.
He also said traffic started increasing after Uganda hosted key international meetings earlier this year. In January Uganda hosted NAM and G77+China.
